One evening at the Sweat’s house the grown-ups were having a party. Us kids were supposed to stay in the bedrooms with the hallway door closed. But of course curiosity got the best of us. We huddled behind the door and peeked through the crack so we could see the action. This worked fine until I inadvertently stuck my finger in the door jamb and Ricky closed the door. At the snap of a finger, the room went silent and all heads turned.
